In June, we begin a new series titled, "Called – God is Calling You!"
In the Old Testament, God spends a great deal of time calling people and speaking into their lives. Through the power of promise and covenant, God tells humanity of how God has great things for those who will hear the call. Yet even in the Old Testament, with the patriarchs and matriarchs of the faith, there is a wrestling with what it means for God to call imperfect people to serve and follow the Lord. God is persistent, inviting those individuals to hear the call and embrace the Holy Spirit at work in their lives.
These narratives of the Old Testament remind us of how God is calling us today to hear how God is at work in our lives. Through the narratives of various individuals, we hear of how God is seeking to direct and guide them. The same goes for us today. God is not looking for perfection or exceptionalism. God is looking for people whom God needs to serve and be in the world, just as we have been made and equipped to be. God is calling us to respond and to hear the good news of how God’s call continues to fill us up.
